It was time to stretch the legs and get out into the forest. We dropped the kitty at the Pet Resort, loaded the dogs into the RV and headed to the hills. Six hours after leaving the house, we pull into the Chemeketan Campground in Central Idaho. Parked the rig, pulled out a few chairs, and poured a martini.
The next morning, we ventured off to the Yankee Fork. It’s the home to a wonderful old dredge that sits in the piles of rocks it left behind. Once touring the dredge, we found ourselves at Custer. A well maintained mining town with many standing buildings and a small museum. We sat on a bench in the shade and watched the world go by. After a bit of relaxation, we jumped in the Jeep and hit a trail that turned into an ATV trail. We turned the pack around and headed back to camp.
On Saturday, the group was heading up to Boulder City, but mom and I stayed at camp with Curtis and Jane. The bouncing and rolling of the trails on Friday had worn us out; a day at camp was a welcome break. Turns out, we didn’t get to relax as much when I found out the RV had run out of fresh water. Close the doors and drive out to a source of fresh water was the only solution. Added water, had lunch, and headed back to camp.
Sunday brought a much smoother road and a day out with the group. We visited an old Ranger Station, which had a nice little outhouse. Check out the picture below. Up on top of the hill, mom was comfortable sitting in the Jeep looking out over the mountains.
Each day had a nicely cooked dinner followed by time at the bonfire. On Monday, we packed up and headed home. I’ve already booked the 2019 campout.
