March 7th to March 17th – One RV, 3 dogs, one Jeep, and 2000 miles. Did I mention good friends, Jane and Curtis?
We started with a night in Hawthorn, NV for mom’s birthday. Yeah, why not celebrate your 81st in the middle of the desert?
The following day, we moved to Shoshone, CA where we stayed for a few days. This place is a speed bump between I-15 and parts of Nevada and Death Valley. However, it is central to some rocks we had not climbed and the China Ranch Date Farm. If you’re in the area, check it out.
After exhausting the meal and trail choices, we moved to Panamint Springs. The trip went through wonderful Baker, CA and Barstow, CA. If you find yourself in Barstow in a 40′ RV, beware of narrow roads. We stopped at Vons to stock up on food, and getting out of the parking lot was a challenge.
In Panamint, the restaurant seemed to be declining, but we had the rolling kitchen, so no worries. We found a good meal in Trona at the Esparza Family Restaurant. We did a few dirt roads, but stayed pretty mellow with mom in the passenger seat. (Check out the facebook link for some of Curtis/Jane photos on their day run.)
We headed home after a few days in Panamint Springs and stopped in Winnemucca for a night. While in Winnemucca, we headed to the The Martin Hotel for a basque dinner. The following morning, it was back to Boise and the daily grind.

Great shot of Jane and Dianne.
No photo of the free topless bartender?
Can you read the fine print on that sign? It is very litigious.
