Tom & Jerry on The Ready

It was the late 80s, I was traveling to mom’s house for her Christmas party. I came out of the airport, and mom had a thermos of this wonderful beverage for me.

In the years to follow, it became a mainstay of our Thanksgiving trips to Newport / Costa Mesa every year. The trips started in 1986, and I’ve been there every year except one. Upon arrival, my Aunt Elaine has the ingredients ready for me to assemble the annual batch.

That evening, we mix up a few toddies and reminisce over the year gone by. Make a batch for yourself using the recipe below.

Tom and Jerry

The Tom and Jerry is a wonderfully rich hot toddy. My friends have called it White Christmas since it has all of those spices that bring you to think of snow and presents. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Batter Instructions

  • Mix egg yolk with 3 cups sugar, nutmeg, cloves, and cinnamon. If it seems to dry, add an additional egg yolk.
